What is
Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is
widely recognized for the outstanding results that have been achieved.
Still, there is misinformation and many misconceptions persist about
hypnosis. There is no surrender of mind control.
Basically, it is your own
state of concentration. Hypnosis is a function of one’s own mind through
the ability of the individual to relax and concentrate with a single focus
eliminating all background noise or chatter. Think of the times when you
watched a movie, a television program, or read a book and became totally
absorbed in the story---perhaps even identified with the characters. This
is a form of hypnosis.
You may think of hypnosis
as a semi-sleep state like the times when you were drifting off to sleep,
but were still perfectly aware of your surroundings. Or just before you
awakened in the morning in a very blissful drowsy state when you were
consciously aware, but clearly not wide awake and alert. This is sometimes
referred to as alpha, an altered state of consciousness, and is similar to
the practice of meditation.
All hypnosis is really
self-hypnosis. The hypnotist is
your facilitator helping you to achieve this state of relaxation, single
focus and concentration when your subconscious mind may be directly
addressed.
Hypnosis works by direct
communication with the subconscious mind. It is in this manner that
behavioral patterns may be more easily changed. Many anxieties, attitudes,
habits, and problems are rooted in the subconscious mind and when they are
brought to awareness in the conscious mind they can be resolved or
minimized. The client is given positive suggestions to aid in the
treatment according to his or her goals/objectives. We use the expression:
"What the mind perceives, the body believes."
In the interview process,
the client states the goal or objective of treatment and discusses with
the hypnotist the lifestyle and circumstances as these may apply to the
condition being treated. The Client is always in control and will be
able to hear and remember what is said in the hypnotic state. There is
no surrender of control. Under hypnosis the client is not asleep or
unconscious.
Hypnosis in person or by telephone
Hypnosis by phone works---sessions are
in the privacy of your home. No traveling to appointments. No parking
problems.
Sessions are scheduled at times to
suit you!
If you
wondered...
Can I be hypnotized?
Yes, any one of normal intelligence can be hypnotized. If you have a
reasonable ability to concentrate. It is a lot like daydreaming.
What are my prospects of
success? Motivation is the key to
success. The more you want to make a change, overcome a behavior, or
achieve your goal, the greater your odds of achieving your objective.
Will I do something
against my will? No! When you are
hypnotized, you are aware of all suggestions given to you and you will not
accept any suggestion that in any way violates your personal integrity or
standards of behavior. You will not do anything which you would not do
when wide awake and alert.
Will I reveal any
secrets? No! To repeat, you will
not do or say anything under hypnosis that you do not wish to say or do.
Will I come out of hypnosis?
Yes! Even if the hypnotist was not present, you would come out of the
hypnotic state naturally. For those who practice self-hypnosis without
having a hypnotist present, they do not remain "stuck" in the
hypnotic state. |
